Resilience Specifications
Total Air Filtration
Fønix shelters achieve air purity levels that surpass cleanroom standards, ensuring complete protection from airborne contaminants. This is made possible through advanced multi-stage filtration, developed from decades of R&D in cleanroom and biosecurity technologies.
Studies from leading national laboratories confirm that multi-filter setups can maintain pristine air quality even in the most polluted environments for years. The durability of these filters, rated for over a decade, ensures long-term reliability without frequent maintenance.
Specifications:
Dual U17 filters, ensuring >14-log reduction in particulate matter (includes large safety factors)
Prefilters to prevent damage to main filters, further increasing log reduction
Cleanroom-grade ductwork certified leak free (no leakage around filters)
Silent, energy efficient, highly durable and variable speed fan
Design allows for cleaning of prefilters (outside) from within the safety of the shelter
Pressurizes the structure to >50 Pa
Allows for increased airflow during entry/exit, as well as during decontamination
From trusted and reputable suppliers such as Camfil
>10 years continuous use lifetime
50-100W power consumption
Protective Structure
Fønix shelters rely on positive pressure to create an impermeable barrier against external contaminants. At a pressure of 50 Pa, even microscopic gaps become one-way passages for clean air to exit, ensuring absolute protection.
Specifications:
183 sqm floor area (not including airlock)
Positively pressurized to >50 Pa, eliminating ingress of outside contaminants
PVC shell with UV protective layer
6-10 years continuous outdoor use
Large windows - ample natural light
Based on design and construction from bubble hotels - optimized for comfort and durability
Easy to set up and take down
Decontamination Airlock
Fønix shelters feature an airlock, or decontamination chamber, for putting on and removing protective gear. It can house equipment like a vaporized hydrogen peroxide generator and includes clear instructions for safe entry and exit—the most vulnerable moments for contamination.
The shelters come with detailed instructions for best practices in decontamination and protective gear as exit and entry procedures are the most vulnerable point of any protective structure against outside contaminants.
Specifications:
26 sqm floor area
Space for donning/doffing protective gear
Accommodates decontamination equipment
10 ACH in 30 min ensuring thorough purging before entry
Water Purification
Water purification systems in Fønix shelters ensure uninterrupted access to sterilized water, even during municipal disruptions. Heat sterilization eliminates even the most resistant microbes, while positive pressure in the delivery system prevents contamination.
Specifications:
Minimum 20 liters/day, maximum 100 liters/day
Up to 15 log reduction in bacterial contamination
Uses heat sterilization at 140C - impossible for biological life to sustain
Positively pressurized to ensure no contaminant intrusion
Energy efficient
Waste System
The waste system applies biosafety lab protocols to safely manage disposal without risking contamination, allowing inhabitants to maintain comfort and hygiene.
Specifications:
### liters/day
Based on biosafety laboratory design
Reliable and easy to maintain
Handles all waste streams (requires packaging and clothing to be shredded before disposal)
